Anti-FB’ers Are Lame?: Gizmodo just published this article “If You’re Not on Facebook, It’s Time to Get Over Yourself.” Well, if you read my “Growing Up Facebook” piece the other day, you know I have mixed feelings about FB, mostly negative ones, so I don’t really agree with Gizmodo on this one (and neither do their commenters). Yes, there are definitely those annoyingly fake, self-righteous people who take an oppositional stance just for the sake of being that guy. So yes, I agree that these “obnoxious pseudo-Thoreau” types who think they are better than the rest of society because they have shunned social media are annoying and lame and should get over themselves; however, I pretty much don’t agree with anything else in the article. Don’t tell me, “if you don’t like Facebook, it sounds to me like you don’t like your friends. And what kind of terrible person doesn’t like friends? Even Hitler had friends.” Really? So if I don’t like Facebook I must be antisocial and fake because I have friends that I hate and don’t want to interact with? And then you are going to bring Hitler into this? Come on. Reel it in a little.
WTF Social Media of the Day: Hmm, so this exists: Empire Avenue. As the site explains, “Empire Avenue is the Social Media Exchange, where you can buy and sell shares in any social media profile, meet new people, unlock Achievement badges, and earn boatloads of virtual cash by being active and social online! Buy shares in your friends, your followers, people with similar interests, brands you love, celebrities – anyone! All using a virtual currency and all for free!” WTF? It’s a game and a social media network, and somehow it involves buying shares of your friend’s social media pages, and there is virtual currency and badges involved in all of this? What? Their site says, “Empire Avenue is what you make of it,” but I’m really not sure at all what to make of it and I really don’t care to try.
Tumblr of the Day: Another hipster stereotype bashing blog (this brand of “humor” is really tired), but at least this one has cartoon animals: Hipster Animals.
Video of the Day: This is how I fall asleep too, over the edge of a bookshelf, weird.
