Golden Globes: 1.4 million total tweets with Lady Gaga being the most talked about celeb

“Awards Show Twitter” snapped back into its boisterous form last night with the airing of the Golden Globe Awards on NBC.

The three-hour drunken spectacle, hosted once again by Ricky Gervais, garnered 1.4 million total tweets according to Amobee Brand Intelligence, with plenty of moments that left people talking, including Lady Gaga winning a trophy for acting.

Per usual, the night featured full of surprises (we mentioned Lady Gaga winning an acting award, right?) with “The Revenant” and alleged comedy “The Martian” collecting top trophies for movies, while Amazon’s “Mozart in the Jungle” and USA’s hacker drama “Mr. Robot” winning on the television side.

Netflix had a disappointing night, losing in all nine categories it was nominated for despite having critical darlings such as “Master of None” and “Orange Is the New Black.” Amazon, meanwhile, won two in the three categories for the symphony-themed comedy that left many people wonder the heck “Mozart in the Jungle” is.

Women tweeted more about the ceremony than men, accounting for 62 percent of all tweets, according to data from Brandwatch. The moment that had most people talking was Leonardo DiCaprio’s win at the end with 13,000 mentions in one minute.

Here’s the five most tweeted about celebrities last night, as tracked by Amobee Brand Intelligence:

1) Lady Gaga was the most-tweeted about celebrity with 141,147 tweets for winning Best Actress in a Limited Television Series on FX’s “American Horror Story: Hotel.” And this happened, too:

2) Leonardo DiCaprio ranked second with 74,439 tweets for winning best actor in the dramatic movie category, with that number surely to be bigger if he wins an Academy Award next month.
