One of the biggest shifts in media and marketing has been the rise of gigantic platforms like Facebook, Google, Twitter, Instagram and more. They’re having a profound effect on how both brands and publishers interact with their audiences.
That’s why Digiday is pleased to welcome Garett Sloane as senior reporter to lead our platforms coverage. Garett comes to Digiday from Adweek, where he broke important stories about Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter and others. Garett was a reporter at Adweek for the past year and a half. Prior to that he reported for The New York Post.
Here’s Garett’s take on his beat here:
I think the year ahead, for the industry, is going to be all about data and using data to target ads in ways that were never possible before. Like creating 100 different bits of creative for 100 different target audiences. I am excited to cover the evolution of content, especially formats like vertical video. Last year, we saw these GIFs and cinemagraphs become popular, but in the next year vertical video is that cool style. Also, of course, I am really looking to break news, and think creatively when packaging my stories for online and social media. I want to do videos, as well.
Garett is the latest addition to Digiday’s editorial team. Jess Davies joined us recently as our U.K. editor, Sahil Patel came aboard to cover video, and Hannah Yi is leading our own video-production efforts.
Be sure to follow Garett on Twitter and get in touch through email.
